CFGC Web Submission Guidelines
Submission does not guarantee acceptance for use.
All submissions subject to review and approval.
Do Not Send...
This webmaster does not accept any WordPerfect, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Works or CorelDraw files. All of these applications have the ability to "save as" (convert) to one of the formats requested below.Handwritten or printed copy not accepted unless arranged ahead with permission of webmaster. When possible, ALWAYS provide electronic copy.
COPY: Text, Articles, anything typed
Copy is accepted as...
1. Via Email as the body of the message
2. ASCII/text-only file attachment
3. Microsoft Word 98 (or older) file attachment4. ASCII text or Microsoft Word file mailed to my postal address on a disk or CD-ROM. See address below.
DISK or CD SUBMISSIONS
If you use WordPerfect or Microsoft Publisher, convert the file to Word (or ASCII/"text only") before sending the file. Send a printout/hard copy with the file so we can see where you intended to have: headlines, sub heads, bold, italic, paragraph breaks, columns, type size and so on. This makes it easier for us to attempt to replicate the layout detail into the web layout.
EMAIL SUBMISSIONS:
IF, you plan to send information for submision via email, I would like it following these simple guideline/rules:A.
Subject line of the email has pertinent title reflecting message contents. (Such as: "XYZ" Garden Club news, Listings for "ABC" classes, Article: club trip to "123")
B.
Use paragraphs in the body copy of the message (not long running blocks of text) with a blank line between paragraphs. Do not indent paragraphs.
C.
Never, EVER use ALL CAPS in any email message for the entire body text. It is bad netiquette and hard to read. Any ALL CAPS messages will be ignored.
D.
If multiple subject info is being provided, send multiple emails: one per subject.
E.
If attachment is to be sent, no attachments over 3MB in size will be accepted via email without prior permission of webmaster (me!). I would prefer that you please send on CD to the address below. If submission is an upcoming event or activity, remember to answer all the pertinent questions within the content: Who, What, When, Where, Why, & How (& How Much $)! (as applicable)
Remember to think "globally" as the reader may not know where your event is located! Anyone from anywhere in the state (or planet!) may be reading your announcement. In addition to city name, give general directions from a major intersection or highway for those attending from out-of-the-area.
IMAGES: Logos, Art, Photos
Images are accepted as follows...
1. In JPEG (JPG), TIFF (TIF), GIF or EPS formats.
2. Via email if less than 600k in file size without prior permission.**
3. Anything over 600k in file size needs permission from Webmaster or can to be provided via CD and mailed to the mailing address below.
4. Be sure you include captions for any submitted photos. Name of person or subject, date, event (if applicable), club name (if applicable).**Digital camera users: Your digital camera likely saves its images as a hi-resolution jpg (22" by 11" or more). These are meant for reproduction via hi-quality printing. For the web, we do not need that resolution (and especially the file size that resolution represents). A general rule of thumb is to reduce the image from your camera by 50% (or half), if not more, before you email it to anyone who will view it on their computer or used for the web. Another way to reduce the file size is to save the image at 72 - 100 pixels/inch resolution (a computer screen cannot use anything above 100 pixels/inch). Ideally you want your image to be a 4" x 6" (or so) image like a standard photo print. Your email recipients will bless you for not clogging up their bandwidth with a huge download.
Portable Document Format (PDF)
Please contact the webmaster before sending PDF files for submission. Adobe Acrobat version 4 and older accepted.Basic Web/Internet Netiquette for the Unexperienced Email User:
When sending an attached file, it is polite to state the software application file format (and version) of the attached file, file size, and file contents description in the body of the email message. This is so that if the file becomes corrupted in the transfer, the recipient does not waste large amounts of time trying to open something that does not fit that criteria. As in..."Hi, here's the file I told you about. It's a Microsoft Word 98 document (92k). It's three pages of text with a couple of color clipart pictures. The file name is: "Bobstory.doc"
I also include the file name as many inexperienced people do not know where their computer puts the file they have downloaded. If they have the file name, they can at least search for it.
In addition to these tips, the following are tips from a Netiquette Web Site you can visit for more details/explanations and guidelines... http://www.kassj.com/netiquette/netiquette.html
1. ALL CAPS means shouting, don't use them!
2. Use underscores or asterisks for emphasizing words
3. Watch your tone -- it's written, not verbal communication
4. Check your spelling
5. Quote back only what is relevant
6. Use an automatic signature, especially if you are a business
7. Where are you located if requesting goods or services?
8. Don't send unsolicited file attachments
9. Use a descriptive Subject line
10. Only forward jokes and chainletters if you are SURE the recipient wants them (and hasn't already gotten a copy or two or thirty from someone else)
11. Don't send "Check This Out" Unsolicited URLs
12. Don't expose your email routing list to spammers--ALWAYS supress your mailing list
13. If you are on AOL, do not use the "Forward" command
14. Don't believe every cybermyth, urban legend, hoax or virus "alert" sent to you
(verify it before believing or forwarding it to anyone else by visiting http://urbanlegends.about.com/culture/beliefs/urbanlegends/mbody.htm)
